Former Penn State Offensive Tackle Donovan Smith Signs With Kansas City Chiefs

Former Penn State offensive tackle Donovan Smith signed a one-year contract worth up to $9 million with the Kansas City Chiefs, the team announced on Thursday. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported the terms of the contract

Smith previously played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a team he spent eight seasons with. The Buccaneers were the only team he played for since being selected in the second round with the No. 34 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.

Smith, an Owings Mills, Maryland, product, played in 124 games over the course of his career in Tampa, primarily as a left tackle. He was notably a member of the Buccaneers’ Super Bowl LV Championship team in the 2020 season. The 31-9 Super Bowl victory coincidentally came against the Chiefs.

The 6’6″, 338-pound Smith spent four seasons in Happy Valley from 2011-2014. He redshirted in 2011, his freshman season, but was selected to ESPN.com’s Big Ten All-Freshman Team in 2012 after appearing in 10 games with nine starts at left tackle. In total, he started 31 games during his Penn State career.
