Penn State Men’s Lacrosse Falls To No. 7, Women’s Lacrosse Rises To No. 20 In Latest Rankings

Following the conclusion of Big Ten Tournament play for Penn State men’s and women’s lacrosse, both squads locked into the top 20 of Inside Lacrosse’s national rankings heading into the NCAA Tournament.

Penn State men’s lacrosse fell two spots to No. 7 in the week 13 rankings after falling to Michigan in the opening round of the Big Ten Tournament.

After the Nittany Lions’ early exit in the conference tournament, Jeff Tambroni’s group got a second chance and heard its name called on Selection Sunday for the NCAA Tournament. Penn State earned a No. 5 seed and will face Princeton in the first round of the tournament at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 14, at Panzer Stadium.

The Nittany Lions will enter the NCAA Tournament as the reigning Big Ten regular-season co-champions.

Penn State women’s lacrosse jumped one spot to No. 20 in Inside Lacrosse’s national ranking on Monday.

In a similar fashion to the men’s team, the Nittany Lions dropped the opening game of the Big Ten Tournament to Michigan and concluded conference play. However, Missy Doherty and Co. earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament and will challenge Stony Brook at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 12, in Baltimore, Maryland.

This is the Nittany Lions’ first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2018. Penn State is 0-2 against Stony Brook in its two matches since 2018, however, the team is fresh off a 3-3 conference season and a fourth-place finish in the Big Ten.
