Report: Penn State Hoops Alum Lamar Stevens Traded To San Antonio Spurs

Former Penn State men’s basketball forward Lamar Stevens is reportedly heading to the San Antonio Spurs by way of a three-team NBA deal.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Cleveland Cavaliers agreed to trade Stevens, Cedi Osman, and a second-round draft pick to the Spurs for free agent Max Strus, while the Miami Heat also receive a second-round draft pick.

Following three seasons with the Cavaliers, Stevens averaged 5.3 points and 3.3 rebounds per game and started 25 games in the 2022-23 season. He also shot a career-best 31.6% from behind the arc last season. Over the course of his time in Cleveland, Stevens averaged 5.3 points and 2.8 rebounds per game professionally.

During his time at Penn State from 2016 to 2020, Stevens amassed 2,180 points and 871 rebounds. Across four seasons with the Nittany Lions, Stevens averaged 16.3 points, 1.9 assists, and 6.5 rebounds per game. The forward was instrumental in Penn State’s 2019-20 season push toward the NCAA Tournament before its cancelation due to COVID-19.

The Spurs recently selected 7’5″ French phenom Victor Wembanyama with the first overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft just over a week ago. Stevens will join Wembanyama in San Antonio under head coach Gregg Popovich.
