Penn State Football Lands Two Players On ESPN Preseason All-America Team

Offensive tackle Olu Fashanu and cornerback Kalen King were both named to ESPN’s Preseason All-America Team Monday. Ahead of each season, ESPN selects the players expected to perform the best at each position throughout the college football season.

Fashanu returns to Penn State for his second year as a starter after deciding to forgo the 2023 NFL Draft, in which he was likely to be a first-round pick. Last season, Fashanu allowed no sacks on 281 pass-blocking attempts and is one of the top offensive linemen in the country. Fashanu has also been named to the Walter Camp Player of the Year watch list and Outland Trophy watch list.

Last season, King led the Big Ten Conference in both passes defended and pass breakups, along with three interceptions, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. King has also been named to a slew of preseason award watch lists, including the Bronko Nagurski Trophy watch list, the Lott IMPACT Trophy watch list, and the Paycom Jim Thorpe Award watch list.

Michigan, Ohio State, Illinois, and Penn State represented the Big Ten in ESPN’s preseason All-America team, featured by competitors Blake Corum, Marvin Harrison Jr., Emeka Egbuka, and Jer’Zhan Newton.

Fashanu, King, and the Nittany Lions will begin their 2023 campaign in just 19 days against West Virginia at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 2, at Beaver Stadium.
