Penn State Women’s Hockey Names Julie Gough Team Captain
Penn State women’s hockey is getting set for the season.
The Nittany Lions named graduate student forward Julie Gough as the team’s captain for the 2023-24 season Wednesday. Per a team press release, Gough was selected by head coach Jeff Kampersal and her teammates.

Gough enters her fifth season with the Nittany Lions after earning skating time in each of her previous four seasons. She has established herself as a force on offense, registering a career total of 38 goals and 24 assists with Penn State.
The Ontario, Canada, native burst onto the scene as a freshman skater, playing in all 36 of the Nittany Lions’ games in the 2019-20 season. Gough followed that season with 11 goals and eight assists in a shortened, 21-game 2020-21 season.
In her junior and senior years, Gough continued to improve. Her five power-play goals placed her 14th in the nation in the 2021-22 season, while her seven-game scoring streak last season tied a program record.
