Penn State Wrestler Mitchell Mesenbrink Wins UWW U-20 Championship

Penn State wrestling just doesn’t stop.

Redshirt freshman Mitchell Mesenbrink claimed the UWW U-20 Championship Wednesday, after contending in the 74-kilogram weight class. Mesenbrink, who committed to Penn State in April, outscored his opponents 59-6 at the tournament.

Mesenbrink spent time on the international stage before his UWW gold medal. He had previously finished second at the same tournament last year while wrestling at 70 kilograms. Mesenbrink also conquered the U-20 Pan-American 74-kilogram weight class in July 2023.

Mesenbrink spent his first year of college wrestling at Cal Baptist but decided to transfer away after his first semester. After entering the transfer portal on March 9, he committed to Penn State on April 21.

Mesenbrink is expected to wrestle at 157 or 165 pounds for the Nittany Lions.
