Former Penn State Wide Receiver Allen Robinson Named Honorary Week-One Captain

Former Penn State and current Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Allen Robinson was named an honorary captain for Penn State football’s opening matchup against West Virginia, James Franklin announced to the media Tuesday.

Robinson played three seasons for the blue and white, where he tallied 2,479 yards and 17 touchdowns on 177 receptions. Robinson’s defining moment as a Nittany Lion came in the final seconds of regulation against Michigan in 2013, where he hauled in a deep pass from quarterback Christian Hackenberg that set Penn State up for the game-tying touchdown.

The Detroit, Michigan, native was drafted 61st overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2014. Robinson spent four years with the Jaguars before being sent to the Chicago Bears until the 2022 season. He spent the 2022 season with the Los Angeles Rams. Recently, Robinson was present at the Pittsburgh Steelers training camp.

Robinson will be an honorary co-captain alongside former Penn State defensive coordinator and interim head coach Tom Bradley.

“I’m excited about Tom Bradley, ‘Scrap,’ and Allen Robinson being the honorary captains,” Franklin said. “That should be really cool.”
