Penn State Women’s Volleyball’s Jess Mruzik Named AVCA National, Big Ten Player Of The Week
What a week for Penn State women’s volleyball.
Michigan transfer and outside hitter Jess Mruzik was named the AVCA National Player of the Week and the Big Ten Player of the Week Tuesday.

In the Nittany Lions’ Penn State Invitational performance, Mruzik registered 53 kills, 14 digs, eight blocks, and three aces en route to the team’s 3-0 outing against Western Kentucky, Colgate, and James Madison.
In Mruzik’s contest with Colgate, the graduate student eclipsed 1,000 career kills, while sweeping the Raiders in three sets. The Livonia, Michigan, native closed the three-game invitational with 26 kills, the most of any Penn Stater since 2018. She was named the most valuable player of the tournament, too.
Mruzik is the first Nittany Lion named the AVCA National Player of the Week since 2012 when Micha Hanchock was granted the award. Meanwhile, Mruzik is the most recent Big Ten Player of the Week since Kashuana Williams in September 2022.
Penn State will return to action against Temple on Friday, September 8, in Philadelphia. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
