Penn State Executive Accused Of Felony Strangulation, Placed On Administrative Leave

A Penn State executive was arrested in connection to an alleged domestic dispute late in the evening on October 22 on Earl Drive.

According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by Patton Township Police, Keith Brautigam, Penn State’s interim vice president for IT and chief information officer, was charged in connection to the report made on Sunday.

The complaint detailed that the female caller reported being choked and sustained a broken tooth.

Police wrote that they spoke to the woman, who told officers that the two were involved in a verbal argument that turned physically violent. The woman reported that Brautigam placed his hands on her neck so that she couldn’t breathe.

The report written by police stated that the woman was “extremely emotional,” and told police she believed she was going to die.

The woman was found with bruising on the right side of her neck, with red, irritated skin.

The university said that it is “aware of the serious charges against Keith Brautigam” and that he has been placed on immediate administrative leave, according to university spokesperson Wyatt DuBois Tuesday.

Brautigam told police that he “lost physical control of his body” and he may have choked her. He was charged with felony strangulation and one count of summary harassment.

Brautigam stepped into the interim vice president for information technology and chief information officer in June 2023 and oversaw Penn State IT. He’s been with the university since 2014.
