Penn State To Host Transgender Day Of Remembrance Vigil November 14

In honor of Transgender Awareness Month, Penn State will host Transgender Day of Remembrance to recognize members of the community who lost their lives due to acts of intolerance. Hosted by the Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity, a vigil will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 14, in the HUB Flex Theatre.

The vigil will honor and remember the lives of those lost to transphobic and gender-non-conforming bigotry, hatred, and violence. Names of victims will be shared during the ceremony, and participants are encouraged to respectfully reflect on the effects of transphobic violence and bigotry in the United States today.

Penn State community members will also have the opportunity to speak and share stories throughout the vigil. Whether it’s a personal experience, the story of a victim, or a poem related to the issue of transgender violence, the ceremony aims to uplift the voices of the entire Penn State community.

The form to sign up to speak during the event can be found here. A reception is set to take place in HUB LL011 following the vigil.

The event is part of the Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity’s larger Transgender Awareness Month initiatives throughout the month of November. More information can be found here regarding the ceremony and Penn State’s monthlong programming.
