Penn State Women’s Volleyball Climbs Five Spots To No. 14 In AVCA Poll

Penn State women’s volleyball climbed up five spots to No. 14 in this week’s AVCA poll.

The Nittany Lions were ranked No. 19 in last week’s poll.

The Nittany Lions went 2-0 during their Happy Valley home stand this weekend, starting off with a 3-0 sweep of Michigan on Friday night and then pulling off an enormous 3-1 upset over Wisconsin on Saturday.

The Badgers were ranked No. 2 in the nation going into the game but now sit at No. 3 in this week’s poll thanks to a successful upset bid from the Nittany Lions.

In its victory over Michigan, Penn State was led by Jess Mruzik with 14 kills and Mac Podraza with 32 assists. Gillian Grimes and Maddy Bilinovic also combined for 25 digs in the sweep over the Wolverines.

Additionally, the Nittany Lions won their heavyweight matchup with Wisconsin thanks to Camryn Hannah and Mruzik landing a combined 35 kills and a whopping 51 assists from Podraza.

Podraza, an Ohio State transfer, also won Big Ten Setter of the Week for her elite playmaking in Penn State’s victory over the Badgers.

The Nittany Lions will continue their homestand in Happy Valley against Michigan State at 7 p.m. on Friday, November 17, in Rec Hall for their annual “Silent Set.”
