Penn State Receives $3.3 Million Grant For Electric Vehicles & Charging Infrastructure

Penn State is set to receive over $3.3 million from a grant from the Department of Environmental Protection to add electric vehicles and corresponding charging infrastructure at University Park.

The grant, which totals $3,305,011, will allow the university to replace five Class 6 and seven diesel-fueled trucks. Along with the new electric vehicles, the grant money will also allow for charging infrastructure at three locations across campus.

“This project is a group effort, and I am very excited that it is moving forward,” David Snyder, associate vice president of auxiliary and business services, said.

Penn State currently has 18 fully electrical vehicles, but none of them are considered medium or heavy-duty. The university also has no vehicles above Class 4 that are considered electric.

“Penn State is continually working toward improving its environmental performance, and infrastructure like our vehicles and how we fuel them are crucial elements to that progress,” Penn State Chief Sustainability Officer Lara Fowler said.
