Report: Penn State Football To Hire Vanderbilt’s Justin Lustig As Special Teams Coordinator

Penn State football is expected to hire Vanderbilt tight ends coach and special teams coach Justin Lustig, as reported by 247Sport’s Matt Zenitz.

Lustig, an Erie, Pennsylvania, native, played college football at Bucknell before starting his coaching career as an assistant at Christopher Newport.

After a stint with Louisiana Lafayette as the special teams coordinator, Lustig was Ball State’s running backs coach and special teams coordinator until 2015. He was also the Syracuse special teams coordinator before heading to Vanderbilt as an assistant. He was later promoted to special teams coordinator.

Lustig was also a finalist for the Broyles Award in 2018, an award that honors the nation’s top assistant coach. While at Vanderbilt, Lustig’s special teams units were one of 20 programs in the country to block multiple punts and finished 11th nationally in net punting.

Lustig’s reported hiring comes after former special teams coordinator Stacy Collins left Penn State for the same role at Boise State.
