Penn State Athletics To Celebrate National Girls & Women In Sports Day

National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) is celebrated nationally by paying tribute to and increasing athletic opportunities for girls and women in sports and fitness.

Penn State female fall and spring sports will be celebrated over the next week to commemorate NGWSD, which is officially held on Wednesday, February 7.

Each of the following female fall and spring athletics teams will celebrate NGWSD at the following games over the next week.

Friday, February 2

  • Women’s tennis will host its first home match of the season at 3 p.m. against St. Francis
  • In its final meet of the season, the swimming and diving team will challenge Villanova at 4 p.m. in McCoy Natatorium
  • No. 15 Penn State women’s hockey will celebrate NGWSD at 6 p.m. in the opening game of its two-battle series against Mercyhurst

Saturday, February 3

  • At 2 p.m., the women’s hockey team will host its NGWSD game, which will feature a variety of events for fans, including a face painter, balloon artist, and caricature artist in the Kids Zone and a postgame skate with the team. There will also be an NGWSD display from the All-Sports Museum at the game.
  • No. 23 Penn State women’s track will participate in the Sykes & Sabock Challenge, Senior Day, and NGWSD celebrations
  • Women’s gymnastics will host No. 16 Minnesota for its annual THON meet at 2 p.m. in Rec Hall
  • The Lady Lions will celebrate NGWSD as part of its Play4Kay Pink Zone game at 6 p.m. against Michigan

Sunday, February 4

  • The Penn State softball team will host its Community Day at 2 p.m. in Holuba Hall. The Nittany Lions will provide free pizza, showcase an inter-squad scrimmage, and an autograph-signing event.

Saturday, February 10

  • To round out the festivities, Penn State women’s lacrosse will host its first game of the season against Penn at 3 p.m. at Panzer Stadium
