Report: Former Penn State Football Running Back Saquon Barkley Signs With Philadelphia Eagles

Former Penn State and New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley is reportedly signing a three-year, $37.75 million contract with the Philadelphia Eagles, according to ESPN Senior NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Schefter reported Barkley agreed to a contract that could be worth up to $46.75 million and includes $26 million at signing.

From 2015 to 2017, Barkley spent three seasons at Penn State. During that time, he rushed for 3,843 yards, the second-highest mark in program history, and 43 touchdowns on 671 attempts. Barkley also recorded 1,195 receiving yards and eight touchdown catches.

The New York Giants selected Barkley with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, which made him the highest Nittany Lion selection since Courtney Brown and LaVar Arrington went No. 1 and No. 2 overall, respectively, in the 2000 NFL Draft.

Barkley rushed for 962 yards and six touchdowns last season. He’s rushed for 5,211 yards and 35 touchdowns in his six-year NFL career.

Barkley impressed in his rookie season, rushing for 1,307 yards and 11 touchdowns en route to earning the league’s Offensive Rookie of the Year honor by the Associated Press. However, he only rushed for 1,630 yards as he struggled to stay healthy over the next three seasons.

The Coplay, Pennsylvania, native returned to form in 2022, with a career-high 1,312 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns in a season that saw the Giants make the playoffs for the first time since 2016.
