Report: Former Penn State Hoops Guard Kanye Clary Enters Transfer Portal

Former Penn State men’s basketball guard Kanye Clary has entered the portal, per Verbal Commits. Until his mid-season departure from the team, Clary was the group’s leading scorer.

Clary’s departure was classified as a “coach’s decision” by head coach Mike Rhoades. Beforehand, Clary was averaging 16.7 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 2.8 assists through 23 games and 20 starts.

Clary, a sophomore, remained with the Nittany Lions in the 2023-24 season after being recruited by and committing to Penn State under former head coach Micah Shrewsberry. Clary was one of three players who didn’t enter the transfer portal after Shrewsberry’s exit after the team’s NCAA Tournament run.

After Clary’s departure, senior guard Ace Baldwin Jr. took over the team’s offense and held the team steady through the end of the regular season. Without Clary, the Nittany Lions upset No. 12 Illinois and finished 11th in the Big Ten, winning one Big Ten Tournament game against Michigan.

Clary finished his Penn State career with 55 appearances, 501 points, 86 assists, and 94 rebounds.
