Penn State Men’s Hockey Lands Former UConn Goaltender Arsenii Sergeev

Former sophomore UConn goaltender Arsenii Sergeev is transferring to Penn State men’s hockey, according to his Instagram account.

“I want to thank UConn for two great years. I am thankful to have been part of this team and the atmosphere. Special thanks to my coaches, teammates, and family,” Sergeev wrote. “I am excited to announce the next step of my journey, as I have decided to join Penn State to continue my athletic and academic career.”

The Yaroslavl, Russia, native spent the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons with the Huskies. He had a .898 save percentage and allowed 3.07 goals-against average in his freshman campaign across 14 appearances. He improved in both categories last season with a .918 save percentage and 2.74 goals-against-average over 15 games.

The 6’0″, 195-pound Russian previously spent one season with the USHL’s Tri-City Storm where his 2.25 goals-against average and .913 save percentage led him to a USHL Goaltender of the Year distinction following the 2021-22 season.

Sergeev joins fellow sophomore Noah Grannan as the only two goaltenders on the roster as GopherPuckLive reported that Liam Souliere entered the transfer portal on March 26. Given his experience and successful track record, Sergeev should be a strong candidate to win the starting job if Souliere opts not to return.
