Cael Sanderson Pins Nick Lee As Next Penn State Wrestling Assistant Coach
Former Penn State wrestler Nick Lee has been tabbed as the Nittany Lions’ next assistant coach, head coach Cael Sanderson said on the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club podcast. Lee will take over for former assistant coach Jimmy Kennedy, who left Penn State to work for David Taylor at Oklahoma State.
Lee was a star for Penn State, ending his senior season 13-1 and winning an NCAA title at 141 pounds in 2021. After winning the NCAA Championships in his takedown against No. 1 Jaydin Eierman, Lee went on to win the Amateur Wrestling News Hammer Award.
After Penn State, Lee made the 2023 World team and finished at No. 2 at the Olympic Trials.
“He has a knack for coaching,” said Sanderson on the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club podcast. “He’s really smart. He’s taken a vested interest in helping the people around him get better. Even at times when he’s supposed to be training, he’s helping others. I think he’s going to do an outstanding job.”
