Penn State Men’s Soccer Signs Kentucky Transfer Aboubacar Camara

Penn State men’s soccer has signed fifth-year transfer forward Aboubacar Camara from Kentucky, the team announced Tuesday. Camara’s signing came after the Nittany Lions lost incoming freshman Frankie Westfield to a Philadelphia Union II professional contract.

Camara has spent his time in college playing for Kentucky and Louisville. In his lone season with the Wildcats, Camara made 20 appearances and notched three goals and three assists.

With Louisville, Camara started 46 matches and led the team in goals for each of the three seasons he spent with the Cardinals. With 25 career goals, Camara stands at eight in all-time goals scored and was the first Louisville player to reach a double-digit goal total since 2016. During the 2022 season, Camara’s 13 goals were good enough for second in the ACC and 10th nationally.

“Abou is a proven goal scorer at the highest level of NCAA DI soccer,” head coach Jeff Cook said in a statement. “I am thrilled to be reunited with him as we had the pleasure of working together at the Philadelphia Union Academy. Abou is a smart, dedicated, and hardworking striker who will make a significant impact for the Nittany Lions this fall.”

Camara became one of 13 additions to the Nittany Lions’ roster in the offseason, including transfers Andrew Cooke (Colgate), Chase Oliver (Wake Forest), Christian Dionne (UConn), Jack Bonas (Villanova), Kojo Dadzie (Brown), and Michael Hewes (Penn).
