Penn State Hoops Guard Jay Rodgers Enters ARD Program After DUI

Penn State men’s basketball guard Jay Rodgers has been admitted into an Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition (ARD) program following a DUI incident in June, according to court documents.

The program, which was approved by Centre County Judge Julia Rater on October 7, places Rodgers under Center County Adult Probation and Parole supervision for the next 12 months.

During that time, Rodgers must complete an Alcohol Safe Driving Course, devote 10 days to community service, and refrain from consuming any alcohol.

Rodgers also faces a 60-day driver’s license suspension and must complete any recommended treatments that come from a drug and alcohol evaluation.

If Rodgers successfully completes the 12-month probation, the court could dismiss and expunge his charges. However, failure to complete can lead to prosecution.

Rodgers was charged in early August after a police officer pulled over the Nittany Lions’ projected starting point after a near collision with a motorcycle in downtown State College.

According to an affidavit, Rodgers was leaving a downtown dance club around 2 a.m. Police said he had “a strong odor of alcoholic beverage,” and his eyes were “bloodshot, glossy, and sleepy in appearance.”

Rodgers declined to take a preliminary breath test and to have his blood drawn, citing instructions “from his parents and coaches ‘to always refuse testing.’”

The alleged incident occurred on June 21.

Rodgers was charged with a misdemeanor count of driving under the influence of alcohol or controlled substance, a misdemeanor charge of obstructing administration of law or other governmental function, and a summary offense for turning movements and required signals.

Rodgers transferred to Penn State from Central Connecticut State, where he averaged 9.5 points per game, shot 40.4% from the field, and 34.7% from beyond the arc. He also holds the Blue Devils program’s single-season assists record with 206 in the 2025-26 season.

The guard has one year of eligibility remaining.
