The Best Activities To Fight Off Bye-Week Boredom

Penn State football has a bye week this weekend, so without a tailgate, folks may be wondering what there is to do around State College.

Don’t worry, we’ve compiled some Happy Valley activities to beat the boredom.

Penn State Athletics

Don’t forget that Penn State has more than football!

There are four different games this weekend from three different teams. Women’s volleyball starts off the weekend with the Pink Out game against Oregon at 7 p.m. on Friday.

Men’s hockey follows suit, beginning a series against Canisius at the same time on Friday. They’ll finish off that series at 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Men’s soccer closes out the weekend of sports on campus with their match against Wisconsin at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

The Wiz & John Mulaney

Maybe folks want some live entertainment that doesn’t involve standing and losing their voice; well, thankfully, State College has plenty of opportunities to enjoy a live show this weekend.

On Thursday at 7 p.m., Eisenhower Auditorium will have The Wiz on stage.

If comedy is more up your alley, the BJC is hosting John Mulaney at the same time!

Smackdown & Sketches ComicFest & Setsucon

For the comic fans out there, you can head to the Smackdown and Sketches ComicFest on Friday and Saturday at C3 Sports.

If anime is more your thing, then head to Setsucon: Anime Autumn Alley at Hyatt Place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday for shopping, cosplaying, and more.

The State Theatre

Whether it’s a date night, a solo trip, or with a group, catching a movie at the State Theatre is always a great option to fight off boredom.

This weekend, the theater has a stacked list of Halloween classics, starting on Friday with “The Shining” and “The Cat and the Canary”, both at 8 p.m.

Saturday has a showing of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” at 8 p.m., then “The Night of the Living Dead” at midnight on Sunday, followed by “Scooby-Doo” at 7:30 p.m.

Fall Farm Festivities

With October coming to an end and Halloween right around the corner, fall is halfway over!

If you haven’t gone to an apple orchard or pumpkin patch yet, this bye week is the perfect chance to do so; just make sure you have a car!

Way Fruit Farm, Our Little Orchard, and Harner Farm are great places to go for apple picking, cider, and some cute fall memories.

Downtown State College

Without a football game, plenty of folks don’t want to go too far from their apartment for some fun. If that’s you — and you’re 21 or older — hit up Doggie’s, The Shandygaff, Cafe 210, or any of the other local bars this weekend!

For those who aren’t 21 just yet, there’s still fun to be had downtown. Hit up 2000 Degrees for some pottery painting, go on a shopping spree, get a tattoo, or spend the night in. Maybe it can be your bye week too.

Whether you spend the weekend pumpkin picking, bar hopping, or catching up on some much-needed rest, just remember that Penn State football is back next week against Purdue.
