Your Penn State Football Bye Week Rooting Guide

After four straight weeks of disappointment, Penn State football gets a break before Purdue comes to town on Halloween.

The Nittany Lions have just one bye week this year, so they need to use it to make adjustments and prepare for the rest of the season.

While Penn State’s biggest goal now should be winning enough to make a bowl game, there’s always someone to root for (or against) as long as college football is being played.

Who To Root For

Let’s start the weekend by rooting for an old friend. Beau Pribula and the Virginia Cavaliers face the Duke Blue Devils on Friday night in an ACC championship rematch. Root for Virginia and see if the Cavaliers can avenge last season’s championship loss.

Root for UCF to beat No. 2 BYU. Why? Because it would cause a ton of chaos in the Big 12 and college football as a whole.

Honestly, just root for every underdog unless you hate them. Penn State doesn’t have a lot left to play for, so why not root for crazy upsets across the board?

Who To Root Against

Root against No. 11 Tennessee.

Former Penn State defensive coordinator Jim Knowles now leads the Vols’ defense, and he’s doing too good a job after what we saw from him last year. Tennessee takes on South Carolina on Saturday afternoon, and it should be close. Let’s see if the Gamecocks can pull off the upset.

Obviously, root against Virginia Tech. James Franklin’s crew is hitting the road to face Clemson on Saturday night. The Hokies are not favored in this matchup, and if Franklin starts pulling off upsets now, Penn State fans will never hear the end of it.

Root against all the AP poll-ranked teams in the Big Ten.

The conference has already seen so many crazy games. Only Ohio State and UCLA are undefeated in Big Ten play. Root for Rutgers to upset No. 24 Northwestern and Michigan State to upset No. 9 UCLA. Root for Minnesota to upset No. 15 Iowa and Wisconsin to upset No. 16 USC.

That said, don’t root for Michigan to beat No. 6 Indiana. Why? Because it’s Michigan.
