[Photo Story] Penn State Men’s Hockey Sweeps Canisius In Weekend Series

Penn State men’s hockey finally added two games to the win column with a sweep of Canisius at Pegula Ice Arena.

After starting the season 0-4, the Nittany Lions took on the Golden Griffins, winning 5-1 on Friday and 3-2 in overtime on Saturday.

Of course, our photographers were at Pegula to capture all the excitement of the weekend.

Dane Dowiak gave the Nittany Lions an early lead in the first matchup, scoring just 2:19 into the first period. He doubled his tally, and the Penn State lead, 12:53 into the second period, a minute into Penn State’s power play.

On Friday, three different players scored the team’s five goals. Dowiak and Andrew Kuzma each had two, and Jackson Smith scored the last one.

Saturday was a closer matchup between Canisius and Penn State, with the Nittany Lion winning in overtime. Three different players scored for Penn State: Mac Gadowsky, Justin Poirier, and Smith in overtime.

Penn State dominated offensively throughout the weekend, with 81 shots on goal compared to Canisius’ 51.

This weekend’s success brought much-needed mojo back to Penn State as it heads into Big Ten play.

The Nittany Lions head to Minnesota for a two-game series to begin Big Ten play. The first matchup is at 8 p.m. on Friday at Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
