9/11 Memorial Service Tomorrow at Old Main

It’s hard to believe that this Saturday will mark the ninth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.  To remember that day and honor those who lost their lives, a memorial service will be held at Old Main 8:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 10.

The event is being coordinated by the Political Science Association, College Democrats, College Republicans, Young Americans for Freedom, the Muslim Student Association, the University Park Undergraduate Association (UPUA) and the Pennharmonics.  An ROTC Guard will be present for the service, and the Pennharmonics will perform.  Various members of the State Legislature will be present, including State Senator Jake Corman, State Representative Scott Conklin and State College Mayor Elizabeth Goreham.

UPUA President Christian Ragland said that he thinks the memorial is “a great opportunity for student organizations to come together as a whole to pay reverence” without a political agenda.

On Sept. 11, Young Americans for Freedom will construct a “Never Forget” memorial on the HUB Lawn. A vigil will be held at 5 p.m., which will feature speeches by State Representative Kerry Benninghoff, and Joyce Haas, candidate for state representative.
