Students Encouraged to Apply for LeaderShape

The applications for LeaderShape are now available and due by Friday, February 25. LeaderShape is a six day development program that teaches students how to “lead with integrity”. This year’s program will be held from May 8 – May 13.

Past LeaderShape attendees have gone on to hold positions within UPUA, THON, Homecoming, and the four Greek Councils. This is a chance for students from all grades to spend time with their peers working on team building skills and how to affect campus development.

At the end of the six-day experience, participants will:

  • Increase their commitment to acting consistently with core ethical values, personal values, and convictions
  • Enhance their capability to develop and enrich relationships as well as strengthening their commitment to respecting the dignity and contributions of all people
  • Embrace the belief in a healthy disregard for the impossible
  • Develop the capacity to produce extraordinary results

Fran Roach, a 2008 LeaderShape alum, encourages all students to apply and attend with an open mind. “The experience was incredible. I went into not knowing what to expect and came out with a tight-knit family of over 70 Penn State students and staff.”

The program is held at the Hartman Retreat Center in Milroy, Pa. and only costs $100 for the students thanks to the sponsorship of several on-campus donors such as the Office of Residence Life, the Greek Councils and the Office of Student Affairs, to name a few. This is a great opportunity for students looking for a way to get more involved in the Penn State community by meeting a diverse group of people and learning valuable skills that will last a lifetime.

“If you’ve ever seen the movie You’ve Got Mail, you’ll understand me when I say I have the “Kathleen Kelly Syndrome.” I often have trouble saying exactly what I mean. Instead, I find it easier to outsource by using quotes or songs to convey my message. That’s why you’ll find a few of my favorites scattered throughout this post: my senior column.”
