TEDxPSU Executive Director Application Available

Last October, Penn State University held its first independent TED event in Schwab auditorium. The event brought speakers from across the globe to spark new discussion amongst members of the Penn State community on topics such as education, healthcare, and even music.

Planning for TEDxPSU 2011 is underway starting with the position of Executive Director. Applicants for this position should have the motivation to build upon the initial successes of the event last fall, with the passion for bringing people together. The Executive Director will work with the rest of the Executive Committee, as well as student, faculty, staff, and community volunteers that’s even more successful than 2010.

“As with any other major event, there are a number of workstreams that will be happening simultaneously during the planning phases: scheduling the event and selecting the venue, selecting and working with the speakers, managing the budget, soliciting and working with sponsors, and coordinating efforts across many of the colleges and organizational units at Penn State” – Mark Poblete, TEDxPSU 2010 Communications Committee Chairman

Applications are open from now until March 20 and can be submitted online. The 2010 Executive Committee will review each application and offer interviews to the top candidates, ultimately making the final decision. Once selected, the 2011 Executive Director will continue to lay the groundwork for the next TEDxPSU event.

“If you’ve ever seen the movie You’ve Got Mail, you’ll understand me when I say I have the “Kathleen Kelly Syndrome.” I often have trouble saying exactly what I mean. Instead, I find it easier to outsource by using quotes or songs to convey my message. That’s why you’ll find a few of my favorites scattered throughout this post: my senior column.”
