Officially Out: JayPa Done at PSU

In a much expected yet still awaited decision, Jay Paterno officially announced on his blog this evening that he will not return as the Penn State quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator next season.

“After talking with Coach Bill O’Brien we have reached the conclusion that I will not be a part of the Penn State football staff moving forward,” Paterno wrote on his blog, The HD Journal. which he’s scarcely used since 2009.

Paterno joined his father’s staff in 1995 as the tight-ends coachs, and moved up to coach the position he played in college, quarterback, for the start of the 1996 season, which he held until his departure.

It’s unclear what Paterno will do with life after Penn State football, but he said: “I will spend the next few weeks consulting with my wife and family to weigh various future options both inside and outside of football.”

He also took time in his post, entitled “Closing Statement…for now” to thank the student-athletes he has coached, and wished the program the best of luck going forward.

“As a Penn Stater I am reminded of the words “Sing Our Love and Loyalty” from the Alma Mater. I wish the program the best of luck in carrying on the academic and athletic excellence that have been a hallmark of this university for decades.”
