Snapbacks and Dollar Dogs: PSU-Wisconsin Preview

Do you miss the warmer days of fall semester when frat bros in snapback hats flooded campus? If so, tonight you can revel in your nostalgia, because Penn State basketball snapbacks will be given out for free to students who come out to the Bryce Jordan Center as the Lions face 19th-ranked Wisconsin at 8 p.m. It’s another Dollar Dog Night, and fans will also receive a free Penn State basketball Nerf Hoop set while supplies last.

Penn State (10-12, 2-7) will face their fourth-straight ranked opponent in their return home after road losses to Indiana and Ohio State. Pat Chambers’ squad has fared much better at home this season, with an 8-4 record that includes impressive wins over Purdue and Illinois. Guard Tim Frazier continues to lead the team in most statistical categories, averaging 17.9 points per game (second in the Big Ten) and 6.3 assists per game (first in Big Ten).

Wisconsin (17-5, 6-3) come into Happy Valley on a five game winning streak, including a home victory over 16th ranked Indiana on Thursday. Pre-season All-American guard Jordan Taylor leads the Badgers in scoring (13.9 ppg) and assists (4.3 apg), while big man Jared Berggren is averaging 10.6 ppg.

Expect a fairly low-scoring, quintessential Big Ten matchup reminiscent of the three matchups last year. The Badgers have played lock-down defense this season and should pose a challenge to the offensively-challenged Lions, but don’t be surprised if the Lions keep the score close until the last few minutes.

Additionally, the Nittany Lion coaching staff will wear sneakers for the Coaches vs. Cancer Sneakers Awareness Weekend, an event taking place across the country to help fight cancer.

Come on out to the BJC, get a free trendy hat, a Nerf Hoop set, dollar hot dogs, and cheer on the Nittany Lions against another ranked opponent. If you can’t make it out to the BJC, the contest will air on the Big Ten Network.
