UPUA Releases “Keep the ‘State’ in Penn State” Video

Early in February, Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett proposed a budget that would cut Penn State’s appropriation by 30%. If the cuts are approved, Penn State will be forced to increase tuition and decrease the quality and quantity of education that our great university offers.

In order to unify alumni and students against the budget cuts, UPUA and the Graduate Student Association joined forces with CCSG and the Grassroots Alumni Network to plan Capital Day, which grew out of a years-old CCSG initiative originally called “Rally in the Rotunda” which brought Penn State students to Harrisburg to lobby for their education. Capital Day, which falls April 4th this year will allow Penn State students, volunteers, and other advocates to visit Harrisburg and meet with state legislators to discuss issues central to higher education.

Yesterday, UPUA released a video called “Keep the ‘State’ in Penn State” which shows messages from UPUA members about how detrimental the impending budget cuts will be for  the common student. The messages are directed at Pennsylvania state legislators who wil need to approve the budget. Watch the video below:

An earlier version of this story misrepresented the origins of Capital Day. It has since been corrected.
