This past weekend, Penn State (13-18) swept the Canisius Golden Griffins (17-17) in a three game series at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

In game one of the series, the Nittany Lions’ bats caught fire as they put up 15 on Canisius in a 15-5 win.  Sean Deegan and Jordan Steranka of the Nittany Lions each had three run homers and five RBIs apiece. Pitcher John Walter picked up the win for the Nittany Lions, giving up only three earned runs and striking out seven.

Deegan had yet another big game in game two of the series. Not only did he tie the game in the 6^th with a solo homerun, he also had the game-winning single in the bottom of the 11^th that gave the Nittany Lions the 4-3 win on Saturday. Nittany Lions starting pitcher Joe Kurrasch pitched well, despite not picking up the win. He went six and two-thirds innings, and only gave up one earned and struck out ten. Tim Dunn picked up the win for the Nittany Lions, as he came in during the 9^th inning and was able to hold the Golden Griffins scoreless the rest of the game.

The third and final game of the series was also a nail biter, but once again the Nittany Lions were able to win on a walk-off hit. Right fielder Zach Ell was the hero for the Nittany Lions this game, as he went 3-4 with 2 RBIs. His last RBI was the one that sealed the deal, a double that gave the Nittany Lions a 4-3 walk-off victiry. Nittany Lion pitcher Steven Hill picked up the win, lasting all nine innings while giving up three earned and striking out eight.

Currently on a season high six game winning streak, the Nittany Lions play again this Wednesday against the Pittsburgh Panthers in Pittsburgh.  A fan bus is being organized for those wishing to attend the game. The bus leaves at 2:00 by Medlar Field, and the game starts at 6:00 that evening. Jersey Mike’s will be served on the way up, and snacks will be served on the way back.
