Celebrate Free Comic Book Day on Saturday

Who said print was dead? Over at comic swap, superheroes and villains have been fighting it out for years. Publishers have been trying to push digital comics, but there’s no comparison to having a real book in your hand. And that’s why you owe it to yourself to find your local comic book store this Saturday for Free Comic Book Day.

State College’s own Comic Swap, Inc., on Fraser Street under the Dunkin donuts, plans to celebrate the holiday in style. “It’s like Christmas for comic book fans,” said one of the employees I talked to . The store will feature activities throughout the day, including visits from local artists like Jared Rosello and Jay Hosler, picture opportunities with Star Wars cosplayers, lots of giveaways, and more.

Whether you’re a DC or Marvel fan or someone who’s never picked up a comic before, Free Comic Book Day is the time to celebrate an art form that is rarely seen as one. Some great-looking superhero movies are coming out soon, and this event is a cool way to kick off the summer. If you’re not in town, you can find your local comic store here.
