Penn State Defeats No. 3 Nebraska In Four Sets
The #4 Penn State women’s volleyball team got off to a great start in the Big Ten on Wednesday night, as they defeated Nebraska 3-1 in front of a packed Rec Hall in the conference opener. This was Penn State’s third win over a top-10 opponent already this season.
Nebraska was able to claim the first set, 25-23, but the Nittany Lions claimed the second set 28-26 and didn’t look back. The Cornhuskers went deep into their bench in the 3rd trying to stop the Lion’s momentum, but nothing worked as PSU won the third 25-17.
The fourth set saw Penn State spot Nebraska a 9-1 lead, and then watched as PSU scored 16 of the next 19 points. An ace by Maddie Martin made the score 26-24 and started the celebration, as Penn State defeated a top-3 Nebraska team in Rec Hall for the second year in a row.
Junior Deja McClendon led Penn State with 16 kills and 5 blocks, Ariel Scott had 12 kills, and Katie Slay chipped in 10. Sophomore Micha Hancock led the team with 55 assists, and Nia Grant had a team-high 5 blocks.
Penn State is now 11-1 on the season, and 1-0 in the Big Ten. The Lions end their 5-game homestand against Iowa on Saturday. The game is scheduled for 8 p.m. and as always, is free for students.
