Penn State Hosts Iowa, Chambers to Donate to THON

Penn State will again look to register its first conference win of the season tonight at the Bryce Jordan Center when Iowa comes to town for a 9 p.m. tip on ESPNU. With the game being played on the eve of THON, Penn State head coach Pat Chambers has pledged to donate $10 to the Four Diamonds Fund for every Penn State student who attends the game. Additionally, it will also be another dollar dog night.

According to the GoPSUSports.com game release, there is a five step process for a Chambers THON pledge to be tallied.

  1. Pledge card may be picked up at any BJC gate from 8:00-9:15 p.m.
  2. One Card per Penn State students with valid Penn State ID.
  3. Cards will be picked up in the student section beginning with 5:00 to play in second half.
  4. Cards may be dropped off at Gates A, B, or D starting at the 4:00-minute mark of the second half.
  5. Students attending the game can also register at the Code Blue Area near Portal 31 for the chance to win a 32″ television or one of two Ipads. Penn State freshmen students can take part in a contest to win free pizzas for every room on their dorm room floor simply by attending the game and registering.

As far as the game goes, the Nittany Lions (8-15, 0-11 Big Ten) are looking to bounce back after another rough shooting performance against Nebraska in which the team shot just 29 percent (14-48) from the field in a 67-53 loss.

One of Penn State’s best road efforts came two weeks ago on the road in a 76-67 loss at Iowa. In that game, DJ Newbill led the Lions with 20 points and Jermaine Marshall added 15 points. Like they have many other times this season, fouls hampered the Lions, and Iowa (15-9, 4-7 Big Ten) capitalized by making 31-39 free throws en route to the win.

Time is running out for Penn State if they want to avoid a winless record in the Big Ten conference. They played Iowa tough in Iowa City, and maybe with some THON magic in the air the Nittany Lions can break out of their shooting slump and pull off an upset with a great crowd behind them.
