Men’s Lacrosse Shuts Down Drexel Dragons

Although we’re not very deep into the season, the No. 13 Penn State Men’s Lacrosse team had quite a bit on the line Saturday afternoon in their game versus No. 12 Drexel. Thanks to an offensive surge in the second half, the Nittany Lions finished off the matchup with a 13-6 victory.

With over 1,000 fans present — a record attendance for Penn State’s Lacrosse field — the Nittany Lions extended their winning streak to six games and in doing so, successfully broke Drexel’s 4-game streak.

Penn State is now entering the CAA play tied for first place with Towson — the Nittany Lions’ opponent next week at home. The game will also air on the Big Ten Network.

Being their 100th anniversary season, the men’s lacrosse game hosted tons of alumni and wore custom-made grey uniforms to honor the occasion. Groups of alumni attended a tailgate before the game started, and some were honored on the field during halftime.

Despite the game maintaining a pretty even score up to the third quarter, Penn State suddenly found themselves pushing to a 7-goal run. Junior Gavin Ahern scored the first goal after a feed from Forster. Less than 30 seconds later, freshman TJ Sanders found his third goal of the game to give the Nittany Lions a 3-goal lead; he scored yet again, just a minute later bringing the score to 8-4.

Forster scored in the first minute of the fourth; Shane Sturgis scored with 12:59 to go, and the final goal of the run was scored by junior Tom Lacrosse.

After defeating the Dragons, men’s lacrosse has now held six straight opponents to seven goals or fewer.

Attackmen TJ Sanders and Jack Forster had four goals apiece, while #2 ranked goalie Austin Kaut saved 13 shots to round out the team’s top performers.
