LGBTA’s Home-Coming Out Week Schedule

You may notice an increase in rainbow flags, flashy clothing, or perhaps catchy music that would make even the most Ron Swanson-esque bro want to shake his hips a bit more this week. That’s because this is National Coming Out Week, which the Penn State LGBTA is celebrating. The week concludes with Coming Out Day on October 11.

The full schedule of events is below:

Tuesday, October 8:
“Is Faith Straight?” – 12 p.m., Memorial Lounge at Pasquerilla Spiritual Center

“Come to this panel presentation about the intersection between LGBTA identities and religious identities. Current Penn State students will share their experiences of identifying as LGBTA while navigating their religious or faith identity. After a short presentation, audience members will be invited to ask panelists about their experiences. Co-Sponsored by the Center for Ethics and Religious Affairs.”

Drag Make-Up Workshop – 6:30 p.m., 319 Willard

“Come to this workshop to learn how you can do drag! Drag make-up lessons will be given for all aspiring drag queens and kings! Even if you do not plan to do drag, come and learn about this art form within the LGBTA community! Sponsored by Undertones.”

Wednesday, October 9:
Rally – 12 p.m., Ground Floor HUB

“Come to the HUB to speak out for the LGBTA Community. Our Keynote Speaker, Don Lemon, will share his remarks while Penn State student raise their voices in honor of National Coming Out Day.”
Don Lemon – 7 p.m., Freeman Auditorium

“Come hear Don Lemon (CNN Anchor) encouraging members of the LGBTA community to never identify as “other” in honor of National Coming Out Day.”

Thursday, October 10:

Register at Email: lgbta@psu.edu.

“A Jihad for Love” – 6 p.m., Waring Social Lounge

“A documentary on gay, lesbian, and transgender Muslims across the Muslim and Western worlds. Co-Sponsored by Residence Life.”

Friday, October 11:
Safer Sex Workshop – 3:00 PM, 107 HUB

“Join current Penn State Students as they talk about ways to engage in safe sex. Conversation will range from protection to toys to STIs. Bring your curiosity and your questions to this revealing conversation.”

Friday, October 18:

The Student Drag Show – 10 p.m., Heritage Hall

If you have never been to a drag show, I would recommend going. Even if there isn’t alcohol there, it will still surely be a good time. Try to catch one at a bar sometime.
