John Urschel Named Finalist for Senior CLASS Award

Penn State football guard John Urschel was named a finalist for this year’s Senior CLASS Award yesterday. The award is presented by Premier Sports Management to students who excel on and off the field in four categories — community, classroom, commitment, and competition.

Urschel is one of ten finalists, and fans can vote daily for him through December 16 at seniorclassaward.com. The fan vote counts for a third of the vote total, while the other two-thirds will come from NCAA coaches and national media voters.

Urschel boasts a 4.0 GPA and graduated with both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in math in four years. He is currently pursuing a second master’s degree in math education. Last year, Urschel was named a first team All-Big Ten guard for his efforts on the field and first-team Academic All-American for his work in the classroom.

This season, Urschel has already received a National Football Foundation scholarship for his post-graduate studies. He has taught an undergraduate math class each of the past two semesters and was also put on the watch lists for the Outland Trophy and Rotary Lombardi Award.

Fellow Penn Staters Tim Frazier, Maya Hayes, Maggie Lucas, and Ariel Scott have also been nominated for the Senior CLASS Award.
