Three Penn Staters on College Football Hall of Fame Ballot

Just 934 of nearly 5 million all-time college football players have earned induction to the College Football Hall of Fame, and three Penn Staters will have their shot this December at being immortalized in Atlanta. Shane Conlan, D.J. Dozier, and Steve Wisniewski are three of 75 players on the College Football Hall of Fame ballot this year, with the inductees to be announced in May.

Conlan was a linebacker from 1982-1986 and part of a special class that won two national championships in 1982 and 1986. In his senior year, he was a consensus First Team All-American and Butkus Award finalist. Conlan led team in tackles twice and finished career ranked second in career tackles with 274.

Dozier was a Penn State running back who scored the game-winning touchdown in the 1986 National Championship. He led the team to a perfect season and was a 1986 consensus First Team All-American and finished eighth in 1986 Heisman voting. He was the first PSU back to lead the team in rushing for four consecutive seasons.

Wisniewski was an offensive guard and a two-time First Team All-American in 1986 and 1988. He was also a member of the 1986 12-0 national championship team. The offensive line helped Blair Thomas rush for 1,414 yards and 11 touchdowns in 1987.

12,000 ballots were mailed to members of the National Football Foundation this week, with the induction in December. The Hall of Fame is moving from South Bend to Atlanta this summer, and this class will represent the first class inducted at the new venue. There are 22 Penn Staters currently in the Hall of Fame, most recently Curt Warner in 2009.
