High School Senior Rachel Reiss Named Next Feature Twirler

One of the Blue Band’s greatest traditions is the feature twirler, also known as the Blue Sapphire. With four-year twirler Matt Freeman set to graduate, there were open auditions to find his replacement. Rachel Reiss, an incoming freshman from Lancaster, found out on Friday that she was selected to replace Freeman.

Although she hasn’t even graduated from high school yet, Reiss already has an impressive resume in the twirling community. She was recently named Advanced Senior Champion at Penn State’s Blue Sapphire Classic, as well as Miss Majorette of the North Atlantic. Reiss is the World Open Strut-Off Champion, on top of many other national and world titles.

Congratulations are in order for Rachel as we welcome her to the Penn State family. Of course, some Penn Staters have already sent well wishes, including Freeman.

And from the sound of it, Reiss is already excited about her new opportunity.
