Walk A Mile In Her Shoes With Penn State’s Men Against Violence

For the fourth year in a row, Penn State’s Men Against Violence will be hosting “Walk A Mile In Her Shoes” on April 10. Starting at 1 p.m., men will don a pair of pumps—don’t worry, the heels go up to size 14—and walk for a mile starting at the Boucke Building and ending on Pollock Road.

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes asks men to literally walk one mile in women’s high-heeled shoes. It’s not easy walking in these shoes, especially for men who are not used to it, but it’s fun and it gets the community to talk about something that’s really difficult to talk about: gender relations and men’s sexual violence against women. Don’t worry, women can also participate in the walk, just make sure women are wearing flats—the men want you to have comfortable feet. They are the only ones in heels.

Men Against Violence, the group that hosts the annual event, is an organization that partners with the Center for Women Students, whose main goal is to oppose all violence toward women by seeking healthy masculinity. The idea of the walk is to raise awareness by looking a little silly, but in the process, the men of Penn State show their support for women students and their opposition toward sexual assault and violence.

The form to fill out and bring to Boucke Building on the day of the walk can be found here, and for more information about this free event, visit the walk’s Facebook page here as well. Come out and support a great cause, and walk a mile in her shoes!
