Lenina Crowne Reflects on Movin’ On

Video By Jack Lukow

Lenina Crowne earned quite an opportunity when it took first place at Battle of the Bands in March, winning an opening spot performing at Movin’ On.

The indie-folk group has gained quite a following since its formation earlier this year, playing gigs at popular spots in town like Café 210 West and THON.

The seven-piece student band played an energetic performance to the crowd at the IM fields Saturday afternoon. Its original songs seemed to be a hit with the audience.

Vocalist Eric Foust said his favorite part of performing was playing in a professional setting.

“It was sweet hearing our music at such a high sound quality and volume,” Foust said.

The band played a diverse set of songs, and thought the audience was receptive to its music.

“Pretty much, if anything they were listening super intently and judging,” said pianist Mike Mulligan. “They want to see how consistent we are, and what kind of sound we have — taking it all in.”

Due to a time conflict that switched up the order of two opening acts, the group ended up playing before electro-pop singer Sky Ferreira. The band wasn’t familiar with some of the acts it opened for.

“Fitz [and the Tantrums] was the only one I knew at all and I barely knew them,” said Foust. “Air Dubai were great guys and their music was really sweet.”

Foust said that the band plans on playing shows this summer, and continuing the momentum next year.

“I’m feeling great about accomplishing our big goals for the year and having met so many wonderful people through playing,” said Foust.
