Top Recruit Sterling Jenkins Commits to Penn State over Ohio State

James Franklin has been on a tear in his quest to #DominateTheState, but he may have just landed his biggest coup of all. Four-star offensive lineman Sterling Jenkins, the overall top-ranked player in the state for the class of 2015, has verbally committed to play for the Nittany Lions. Jenkins committed on KDKA, a Pittsburgh news station.

Jenkins, who measures a staggering 6-foot-8, had offers from Alabama, Michigan, Pitt, and Tennessee, among others, before naming Penn State and Ohio State his two finalists. After taking unofficial visits during the Blue-White game and Junior Day, Jenkins took one final trip to State College yesterday, where Franklin and his staff were able to make a final pitch to Jenkins.

Jenkins hails from Baldwin High School in the Pittsburgh area. He was named a 2015 Under Armour All-American and a AAAA All-State selection during his junior year. He talked to SB Nation last week about why he likes Penn State:

“I love the coaches. I love Coach [Herb] Hand. What they have going with all of the commits is awesome,” Jenkins said. “It seems like they’re building something that’s truly important. I really admire that about them… It’s really sincere and open. Whenever I come on a visit they’re all waiting in the lobby, saying ‘what’s up,’ and checking in on me. They’re really a bunch of good guys.”

Jenkins is the third offensive lineman in the class of 2015 to commit to Penn State. Guard Steven Gonzalez and tackle Ryan Bates have both verbally committed in the last two months.

The other verbal commits for the Class of 2015 include: DT Adam McLean, LB Jake Cooper and DL Ryan Buchholz, DE Jonathan Holland, RB Saquon Barkley, WR Juwan Johnson, WR Brandon Polk, LB Josh Barajas, DE Jonathan Holland, RB Andre Robinson, ATH Kamonte Carter, and Safety Jarvis Miller
