Primanti Bros. Plans To Open In December

The sadness of State College bros will be replaced by the jubilee of our Pittsburgh natives by the end of the year, if everything goes according to plan.

Primanti Bros., the famous Pittsburgh restaurant and bar chain that will replace the Gingerbread Man at 13o Hiester St., is hoping to open its State College location at some point in December, according to Marketing Coordinator Amy Smith. But Smith said it’s not certain that the restaurant will open by year’s end, because Primantis officially secured the G-Man’s old location last week, later than it thought it would. Smith said it’s moving as quickly as possible to set up for a 2014 opening, and the chain will have an official date by next week at the latest.

Smith said the restaurant should be open from 11 a.m. – 2 a.m., and can hopefully stay open later on weekends. Primantis is known for its “Almost Famous” sandwich, a household name in Pittsburgh that tops off meat with fries and coleslaw.

Frat favorite Gingerbread Man shut its doors after Arts Fest when it was operating on a conditional liquor license agreement after nine violations in five years. It had other troubles, too — three of its employees were convicted of harassment over the past several years, and the bar was closed for a spell in 2013 while its license was suspended.
