Penn State Joins You Can Play Movement
Penn State became the latest university to join the You Can Play movement today, releasing a video with Division I coaches, athletes, and university administrators encouraging people to play sports regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

The You Can Play movement was started in 2012 with the mission of eradicating homophobia in sports. The organization was founded after the death of Brendon Burke, the son of famous player Brian Burke and a gay man who dedicated his life to more acceptance in sports. The NHL is an official partner of the project, with about 40 major universities also signed on as official partners, including Big Ten neighbors Ohio State. Rapper Mackelmore also helped the movement gain notoriety when he made a video in support last year.
Penn State consistently receives high ratings among universities for its LGBTA-friendliness, and this represents another step in the right direction for Division I athletics.
