Penn State Berks Receives Yik Yak Bomb Threat

Yik Yak is the source of more fear for the Penn State community after a bomb threat affecting the Berks campus appeared on the app Monday night.

According to the Berks website, the threat affects the Luerssen Building, one of the busiest classroom buildings on campus. Penn State Berks police are working with Yik Yak to determine the credibility of the threat and track down the poster. A PSU Alert was posted on televisions in campus buildings regarding the threat yesterday, according to Channel 69 news, but classes and campus activities continued as usual.

Another threat appeared on Monday in the Berks area including a non-specific Halloween incident, but police determined it non-credible. Penn State Berks is located near Reading.

According to release, Penn State Brandywine is also investigating a non-specific threat. Of course, Penn State’s main campus was the target of a shooting threat last week that shook the campus. Eighteen-year old Jong Seong Shim, who admitted to sending the threat about “killing everyone” was arrested and charged with terroristic threats the night before he said his threat, which he later called a “prank,” would occur.

Yik Yak’s problems aren’t unique to Penn State. Campuses across the country have dealt with threats or incidents of cyber-bullying on the college-aimed app.
