Terry Pegula Wanted Buffalo Bills To Play in Beaver Stadium

The snow crisis in Buffalo, N.Y., forced the NFL’s Buffalo Bills to move their home game scheduled for today against the New York Jets to Detroit and have it played tomorrow. But if Bills owner and Penn State mega-donor Terry Pegula got his way, Beaver Stadium would have been home to some NFL action instead.

According to CBS Sports, Pegula made a push for his alma mater to host his latest acquisition, but Beaver Stadium didn’t have the infrastructure to handle it:

New Bills owner Terry Pegula is a huge Penn State booster, and, sources said, when he and the NFL were discussing where to play their Week 12 game, Pegula was enthusiastic about moving it to Happy Valley, but the lack of NFL game day infrastructure (replay booths, sidelines wired for tablets and headsets, etc.) made those non-starters given the available NFL stadiums. There are obviously several colleges closer to Buffalo as well that have quality facilities (like Syracuse).

A chance to see the magic of Kyle Orton so close to home, missed.

I’ve been complaining for years that a facility as large as Beaver Stadium should host more than eight games a year (one of which is a glorified practice), and it’s an idea we’ve kicked around here. And given State College’s most recent nickname, I don’t think it would have a problem filling up for an outdoor NHL game between the Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins. Alas.
