WNBA’s Brittney Griner To Speak at HUB

Women’s basketball player and activist Brittney Griner will speak at Penn State on March 21 in Heritage Hall, according to the Paul Robeson Cultural Center’s website.

Griner made her name playing at Baylor, where she became the first player of either sex to score 2,000 points and block 500 shots in a career. Griner, 6-foot-8, was a three-time All-American, AP Player of the Year, and national champion in 2012. She became the seventh women’s player to dunk and the second to dunk twice in one game. She’s now a center on the Phoenix Mercury.

Griner came out as lesbian in March 2013, revealing that she was bullied throughout high school and told to keep her “business” to herself while at Baylor. Since, she’s written a book, “In My Skin,” chronicling how she’s become so open about her sexuality. She also got engaged to Tulsa Shock forward Glory Johnson in 2014. She’s now a leading voice in the fight against bullying.
