Energetic My Hero Zero Set Livens BJC

Cover band My Hero Zero brought its infectious energy to the BJC in an early morning set on Sunday. The band, known for its unique covers of popular songs, has become a THON staple over the past few years thanks to their high-energy sets featuring modern and classic sing-along songs.

The band opened with “Let’s Get It Started” before moving into “Uptown Funk,” and lead singer Jason Olcese, stage name Jason O, acknowledged the energetic THON crowd for being one of the best they play for.

“We are so excited for this show right now,” he said “We get to play for one hour here at THON and we look forward to this set all year.”

The band also played crowd favorites “Wake Me Up” by Aloe Blacc, “Shake it Off” by Taylor Swift, and “Livin’ On A Prayer” by Bon Jovi. Drummer Noah Connolly even showed off his rapping skills with a rather enthusiastic rendition of “Fancy” by Iggy Azalea.

After a series of Penn State-themed chants (featuring “Let’s go State” and “Seven Nation Army”), My Hero Zero played an energetic cover of “I Will Wait” by Mumford & Sons, which had the entire crowd singing along, to the catchy chorus.

“This is why we look forward to this show,” exclaimed Olcese.

Towards the end of the set, My Hero Zero covered the Penn State-favorite “Sweet Caroline” before ultimately closing out the set of with “Under The Bridge” by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

My Hero Zero’s take on popular music never disappoints, and they certainly revitalized a BJC crowd suffering from a post-Pep Rally lull.
