Rockets Bring Energy, Cool Dance Moves To BJC

The Rockets aren’t an easy band to describe. They’re setlist spans pretty much every genre known to man and their choreography is… interesting to say the least. Regardless, the Rockets put on perhaps THON’s most entertaining show thus far on Sunday morning.

The band showed their versatility by opening up with “Livin’ On A Prayer” only to be followed by “Mr. Saxobeat,” “Danza Kuduro,” and “Sexy And I Know It.” The rest of the show featured the same kind of variety, as the Rockets performed energetic covers of everything ranging from “I’m Shipping Up To Boston” to “Hot In Herre.”

“Make some noise for yourselves,” singer Chris Taylor said midway through the set. “You’re all beautiful people for what you do.”

The band also performed crowd-pleasers like “Blank Space,” “Ride Wit Me,” and “Drop It Like It’s Hot.”

Where the Rockets really shine, however, is the energy they bring to the stage. Everyone in the band knew the entire dance routine to NSYNC’s “Bye Bye Bye,” which was a huge crowd favorite. The band also featured some cool kick dancing to “I’m Shipping Up To Boston” and did the wiggle dance during “Sexy And I Know It.” It sounds bizarre but it’s incredibly fun in the moment as the Rockets really know how to work a tired and delirious crowd.

The Rockets ultimately closed their set with an emotional version of “Don’t Stop Believin’,” which was a fitting end to the band’s first ever performance at THON. Here’s hoping for many more.
