Pink Zone To Hold Inaugural Morgan Stanley 1-Mile Run

The Pennsylvania Pink Zone, along with the Student Pink Zone Organization, will hold its inaugural Morgan Stanley 1-Mile Run this Sunday as part of their continual effort to support breast cancer research, detection, and prevention, as well as raise both funds and awareness for the research and treatment of the disease.

The race, which will start at the Pegula Ice Arena and end at the HUB, will be split into three heats, with the top male and female competitor in each heat receiving a prize. The first heat, a competitive run, will kick things off at 11 a.m., followed by a run for cancer survivors and their families at 11:15 a.m., and a “Fun Run” for those just out to have a good time for a great cause at 11:30 a.m..

Runners can complete early registration for the event until Friday, with a registration fee of $15 for Penn State students and faculty and $20 for all other members of the community. After Friday, all participants can register at a price of $25 either online or at the race Sunday morning.

The first 200 participants to register early will receive a free T-shirt and gift bag upon checking in to the race. Check-in and day-of registration will begin at 9:45 a.m. outside of Pegula.

In addition to the run, the Pink Zone will look to be in full force at the women’s lacrosse game this Thursday night against Michigan — because if there’s one thing that sucks more than Michigan, it’s cancer.

The game, starting at 7 p.m., is free to all attendees, who are encouraged to wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness. The first 200 fans will also receive a women’s lacrosse “fandana.”

Last year, the Pink Zone raised a record $310,000, which was donated to six central Pennsylvania breast cancer treatment institutes, including the Mount Nittany Medical Center, Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute, and the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition.
