State College Announces ‘LION Bash’ Fall Welcome Event

The State College Borough Office of Community Engagement is launching a new event that will be held in Fall 2015 called the Living In One Neighborhood (LION) Bash. The block party-type community event will take over the 200 block of Allen Street during the first week of classes.

A bustle of live music, food, and engagement activities will inhabit the road in front of the Municipal Building on Thursday, Aug. 27 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. LION Bash welcomes all members of the State College and Penn State communities to come out to enjoy good company, and get to know their neighbors in a casual environment.

There will be activities for all age groups including families with small children, students, and the 65-and-older community. The event will include a photo booth, games with giveaways, downtown tours, face painting, cultural history education about the Nittany Valley, and a chance to learn about service opportunities in the State College community.

Pure Cane Sugar will play live music for the event starting at 6:30 p.m. and attendees can look forward to fresh, local fare from the Food for Thought food truck as well as coupons and giveaways from Jersey Mike’s.

The event will bring together about 20 community and university partners, including the Interfraternity Council, Off-Campus Student Union, the Nittany Valley Society, the Performing Arts Council, Park Mobile, Penn State and State College Police Departments, New Student Orientation, Residence Life, and Centre Area Transportation Authority (CATA).

The Office of Community Engagement is a joint partnership between the State College Borough and Penn State Student Affairs that works to foster and encourage interaction and engagement between students and long-term residents.
